"We were living in a tiny home in the bush and had been trying to get a design for a new (bigger) home that matched our needs and ideas. We knew the land intimately, we knew the best spots to catch the winter sun and where to avoid it in summer, we knew the trees and the different rains and winds.

"We had outgrown our home but were deeply attached to its location, making moving an undesirable option. Notch Architecture transformed our property with a thoughtful plan that provided the extra space we needed in a modern design while preserving the elements we loved most about our home. Project: 032 - rebuild and extension
"We were looking to downsize our home in Ohope. We had subdivided our property, sold the family home and kept the front section with an existing block garage with loft accommodation above. The loft held memories we cherished, but it wasn't big enough for us to live in. The land we were left with was narrow, steep and precarious, but it was north facing and offered serene views out to the beach, from West End to the Eastern bays beyond Opotiki.
Initially we wanted to extend the loft somehow making use of whatever we could using a sustainable mindsight. We wanted to live within our means and be able to soak up the sun and dry wetsuits on the balustrades, have our kids come and stay with their kids, enjoy the company of friends. We also wanted internal access from the garage and be able to live downstairs in the future.
Jeremy has designed something that is even more amazing than we expected, we feel like we are on holiday! Notch were there at every stage to answer any queries or offer advice, and were invaluable to liaise with builders, tradies, engineers and council. Being based in Auckland offered no obstruction to this.
We now have a house that has everything we wanted and more, and it came in on budget and it all fits within 100sqm. I could rave for hours about your skills, so appreciate your work and service in getting us our new home."
